Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the sole serving airport of Hyderabad, Telangana. It is located in the top area of Shamshabad over 5500 acres of land area. It is about 24 Km from the South of Hyderabad and was opened on 23rd March 2008. It is the replacement for Begumpet Airport and has a capacity of 25 million passengers each year. It is operated by GMR and GHIAL, it is a public-private project. It is the largest airport in India by area and is named after the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi.
This is India’s first greenfield airport built through a public-private partnership. It has a passenger terminal, a cargo terminal, and two runways. This was the 1st airport in India to start domestic e-boarding in December 2015 and international e-boarding in October 2020. It is one of the top 10 airports in the world, according to AirHelp. It is also the 4th airport for being the busiest for passenger traffic.

The airport is the focus city for Air India and gives access to all domestic and international flights.
RGIA is owned and operated by GMR GHIAL, a public-private partnership. GHIAL is made up of GMR Group (74%), 13the Airports Authority of India (13%), and the Government of Telangana (13%).
Initially, GMR Group partnered with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, which held an 11% stake, while GMR held 63%. GHIAL has been given the right to operate the airport for the last 30 years, with an option to extend for another 30 years. In May 2022, the Central Government extended this agreement until March 22, 2068.
In October 2023, GMR Group announced it would buy the 11% stake held by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad. The acquisition was completed in January 2024, making GMR Group the sole private owner with a 74% stake.

1. Bus Connectivity - There are many TMRTC buses available from all areas of Hyderabad. These can make commuting easy and affordable.
2. Cab Connectivity - There are cab services as well that make transit smooth and comfortable. The avg fare of cabs is Rs. 300 to 1000, depending on the area.
3. Metro Connectivity - The metro connectivity in the region is Begumpet Metro Station which is 1 min away from the airport.
